Coober Pedy is an opal mining town it is in fact the largest opal producer in the world it is also known by "The Opal Capital of the World". Opal is a form of silica it is very precious because of it's color - regular displays of silica spheres diffract white light and breaks it into different colours. Opals are very intersting as for the unique colours You can get an opal from mining however some people can't find one but don't worry you can get one from the gift shop.
